In a four-page interview titled “Yerin On Metre Altında, Bulutların Üstünde Hissetmek” (Ten Metres Underground, Feeling Above the Clouds), SOUR founder İnanç Eray tells the story of Pür. It started in 2019 with a simple brief: a house and a recording studio on a plot of about 1,200 m² in Cunda. Eray’s answer to that brief was a cave.
The conversation covers the co-design process with national and international recording artists. These talks showed that a studio is also a place where musicians need to feel safe and cared for, and that is where the hotel component came from. Eray also explains how Bağdadi lath and plaster techniques were reinterpreted in fiberglass to create the fluid interior walls. He talks about the sunken courtyards that bring daylight ten metres below ground, and about why architecture should be designed for more than the five senses.
